Miele in the Foreground at the 2016 SKETCH Hong Kong Exhibition

Sketch Hong Kong set up

Miele espouses a philosophy of unwavering dedication to its proud manufacturing heritage and record of innovative excellence, as well as ensuring quality for future generations. This is reflected in how Miele recognises the wonderful culinary diversity and history of Hong Kong. As such, Miele was delighted to lend its support to the SKETCH Hong Kong Exhibition in July 2016, a meaningful event that seeks to cherish the rich cultural heritage of Hong Kong through the medium of sketching.

Throughout the year, Miele has worked hand in hand with SKETCH Hong Kong to encourage artists to visit locations significant to the city’s diverse food culture and history; from stunning representations of the world-famous fruit market at Yau Ma Tei, to crispy spring rolls served in traditional restaurants in Yuen Long – with everything in between! The artists’ passion for local food, renowned chefs and cooking’s central place within society was brought to the fore in a multitude of visually stunning ways.

This year’s extravaganza of artists – which highlighted both historical heritage and food culture – was held in Pacific Place, Admiralty, between 1 and 17 July, followed by an exhibition in Sai Ying Pun until 30 July. More than 50 exceptional sketches were on show, portraying many of Hong Kong’s beloved historical landmarks and traditional ways of life, such as the dramatic contrast between the ultra-modern skyline and old-fashioned watercraft at Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter.

The synergy at this year’s event strongly reinforced Miele and SKETCH Hong Kong’s shared vision, and plans are afoot for further collaboration in the future so that Miele can continue to raise greater awareness about preserving local food culture, as well as extend its admiration for the community’s gastronomic contributions to society. Miele wishes to thank everyone involved in making this event so special and memorable.
